Growing up, Shawn enjoyed being active. She liked hiking, long-distance running, and just being outside. She still loves winter! As Shawn grew older, her interest in fitness evolved, primarily due to experiencing serious injury including a shoulder dislocation, and a partial lower back disk herniation – she was hit by a car as a pedestrian. This led Shawn to explore different forms of exercise and, eventually, Pilates. Her fitness journey hasn’t been without its obstacles. However, through perseverance and determination, she overcame hurdles by learning what works best for her body and that she benefited most from a holistic approach to wellness. Pilates has played a significant role in optimizing Shawn’s health. The positive effects of Pilates led Shawn to become a Pilates instructor over 20 years ago. Today, Shawn moves more easily through each day by incorporating Pilates principles and awareness into all activities. The ease of movement combined with improved posture and breath helps her in other areas of her life. Not surprisingly, Shawn’s fitness philosophy revolves around healthy activities that provide physical, mental, and emotional benefits. As an instructor, Shawn loves sharing her passion for Pilates with a sense of fun and playfulness – striving to challenge participants while they enjoy the workouts. Shawn joined the Club Pilates team in 2024 and has enjoyed getting to know members, most of whom were new to Pilates when they started. She has also enjoyed watching the transformation in these wonderful people.
