Carrie
Instructor
Carrie discovered her passion for Pilates in fall 2011 when she was first introduced to mat Pilates as a one credit course at her local community college. She immediately fell in love! In addition to the mind/body connection, the attention to detail was so fascinating to her. Pilates is what truly sparked her love for fitness. In January 2012, she was in an accident in which she lost all equilibrium and fractured a few of her lumbar transverse processes. While in Physical Therapy, she saw the similarities of some of the exercises they were providing to match those of Pilates. She fell in love with Pilates even more. She says with a smile, “I took to Pilates like a moth to a flame. I know it’s cheesy sounding but Pilates has helped me in so many ways that I never even could have imagined”. After finishing PT, she knew that she wanted to help share her passion for Pilates with others. So, in the Summer of 2012, she started her journey to become an instructor. As she was learning, she found that it continued to help strengthen her mind and soul as well as her body. In January 2014, she became a certified STOTT Pilates instructor proficient in all the apparatuses. As Carrie was studying for her Pilates certification exam, she realized that she wanted to learn even more about fitness so that she could share it with others on a deeper level. This led her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree. Carrie graduated from Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) with her B.S. in Exercise Science with a minor in psychology. While going to SVSU, she taught Pilates, yoga, and HIIT classes to both the students and the staff. She is also certified through ACE (American College of Exercise) as a Group Fitness instructor. She says she finds that Pilates truly helps her ‘do life’. “It helps me live the life I want. My body is misaligned without the reformer’s simple yet integral and effective moves such as footwork and feet in the leg strap series. With so many modifications, Pilates is truly for every ’body’!” When she’s not in the studio, she is either indoor rock climbing, biking, hiking with her husband, or reading a good mystery book.
