Amy has studied Dance and Movement for over 20 years throughout the Bay Area, and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance from Mills College in Oakland. While at Mills, she was fortunate to have studied Graham Technique, a Modern Dance vocabulary whose fundamental movements involve the contraction & release, and spiraling of the torso, similar to many of the Pilates exercises. She has studied a variety of dance styles, many from the African Diaspora, which also utilize the contraction and release to create strong, beautiful fluid movements in the torso. She holds certifications in IMX Pilates Reformer & Tower Barre, Barre Above, and has completed a comprehensive Pilates training, including all Pilates apparatus, as well as TRX, and Myofascial Release. She is passionate about sharing her love of Pilates, and all things related to maximizing the body’s potential for strength and flexibility. She is a firm believer that every body can learn new ways to move efficiently and safely in order to thrive, and enjoy life more fully. Through Pilates, she has rehabilitated a long-standing shoulder injury that had not responded to other treatment modalities. Movement is medicine, magic, and freedom, and Pilates is just the ticket.
