Phyllis
Instructor
Phyllis has been a certified Pilates instructor since 2004 but her training began a couple of years before. She was teaching strength and cardio classes at Body Works when the owner suggested she try a Pilates reformer session. Phyllis was surprised by how challenging the workout was. It revealed many weakness and a significant loss in flexibility most likely from her repetitive motion of running and triathlon training. Phyllis was hooked and felt better after each session. The mindful Pilates exercises were helping her body in ways that strength training had not. She knew that Pilates was the key to getting her body back in balance to continue any vigorous competitive training. She wanted to share this knowledge with her fellow aging athlete friends so she offered them mat classes which she still teaches today. Phyllis also worked in the field of Physical Rehabilitation and knew what a great rehab tool Pilates could be for various physical ailments. She loves that Pilates exercises are for people of all ages and stages of fitness with so many modifications and progressions. Pilates teaches us to engage muscles that we didn't know we had. It teaches us how to breath and initiate movement from our core giving us strength through lengthening of our muscles. She tries to emphasize these components of Pilates in every class or private session. Phyllis uses her Pilates skills daily with her personal training clients as well as her Pilates clients. She is a certified Power Pilates Instructor. She has a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from UK and is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine.
