Tara C
Instructor
I discovered Pilates in the late-90s, watching an interview with Mari Winsor on a talk show. I ran out and bought her book, attempting to learn all the exercises. When a small studio opened in our town, I signed up right away and was immediately hooked. I have been practicing Pilates on and off for the past 20 years, and it has saved me from a lifetime of back pain caused by carrying around heavy gear for my current profession. I had often considered training to be an instructor, but the timing was never right. In 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I underwent numerous surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. It took over 2 years to recover, working through frozen shoulder, exhaustion, and the other usual side effects of treatment. Pilates has been key in keeping my shoulder, body and mind healthy. This experience made me realize that timing will probably never be exactly right, but life is short and you should definitely not wait too long. In 2019 I signed up for Pilates teacher training and I have been so excited to share my love of Pilates with everyone in my classes.
