My love for Mind-Body fitness, and functional and therapeutic movement systems began while attending the University of Oregon. While at the U of O I was introduced to Kundalini yoga and meditation. I became fascinated by how the breath, posture, and intentional movement affected my physical vitality, mental and emotional states, and overall sense of wellbeing. After completing Instructor certification in this system, I went on to gain certifications in Power Vinyasa yoga, and have taught, studied, and deepened my understanding and training in other modalities and aspects of the yoga discipline throughout my career. In addition to yoga, I am certified in the Healing Tao system of Qigong, and in the Gyrotonic expansion system as taught by Juliu Horvath. While on my honeymoon with my wife in Tulum, Mexico, I participated in my first Pilates mat class at a resort on the Yucatan peninsula. I found the class remarkably challenging and humbling (it was a classical Pilates advanced mat class taught by a very seasoned instructor!). Soon after that I embarked on my comprehensive certification from Physical-Mind Institute at a studio in Los Angeles under the guidance of Master Instructor Maria Leone. I went on to deepen my understanding of the classical system of Pilates with Power Pilates in New York, and have studied, trained, and worked with some remarkable Pilates teachers throughout my career. I am continually inspired by and grateful for the teachings of Joseph Pilates. I have found his system of “Contrology”, a.k.a. Pilates, to be remarkably effective, adaptable, therapeutic, and simply unsurpassed in terms of the real-world functionality it creates in its practitioners. One of my favorite things to do is playing music with my wife and two teenage sons. My wife is a flutist and attended California Institute of the Arts. I am a guitarist and am a Berklee College of music alumni. My two sons, Bodhi (18) and Oliver (15) play drums and bass respectively. We’re working on our family band and are focusing on dance-able, “groove” oriented material. Check out the band “Scary Pockets” for a reference. I love all kinds of music but trained at Berklee in Jazz Performance. Some of my other favorite activities are: mindfulness based meditation, reading, spending time in nature, and traveling. My family and I recently returned from a trip to Europe. We traveled through Spain, and parts of Italy and Switzerland. We had an incredible time, and the trip reignited my desire to become conversational in Spanish. I have a long way to go but am working on it. I am super excited and honored to join the team at Club Pilates Eugene and I look forward to meeting lots of new Pilates enthusiasts!
