Holly Shearman

Instructor
Holly started dancing at the age of 19 - a little late! Her dance instructor and mentor told her “You have talent, but no control. Go to Pilates”. She’s been going to Pilates ever since. When she stopped dancing, she kept moving: aerobics instructor, cycling, rollerblading, hiking, yoga enthusiast, etc. There were many times her scoliosis and hypermobility created injuries. She believes fully that, if it weren’t for Pilates, she would not have been able to enjoy all these activities. In 2019, after limping for a bit, she found out she had two torn muscles in her “tushy” (as she calls it in class) and she needed surgery. She credits Pilates for a speedier recovery. Her surgeon was always surprised at how strong she was at each checkup. Holly started teaching group classes over 30 years ago as an aerobics and step instructor. Her passion for teaching grew from there. Her first Pilates certification was with the Physical Mind Institute as a mat instructor. She also became a group fitness instructor, Kripalu and Bikram Yoga Instructor, Spin Instructor and Zumba instructor. In 2001 she attained her massage therapy license. In 2007 she attained her Core Dynamics Full Apparatus Pilates Instructor certificate (the Eve Gentry line of Pilates). She worked as the lead Pilates and mind/body instructor at Canyon Ranch in Miami Beach from 2008 to 2015. In 2016 she returned to Rhode Island and joined the team at Club Pilates East Greenwich in 2019. She loves sharing the benefits she has received from Pilates. It is very rewarding to see people “get it” and start to understand the technique and its many benefits, while also getting healthier and having fun!
