Katie Lowe
Master Pilates Instructor
Katie has been a teacher and student of Pilates for 10 years and is comprehensively certified through the Pilates Method Alliance. As a teacher of Pilates, Katie seeks to help her clients garner strength, flexibility, and coordination through the delivery of progressive, balanced, and challenging workouts. Throughout class, Katie consistently provides descriptive and motivating cues that aim to simultaneously achieve correct form, incorporate breath, enhance the mind-body connection, foster confidence, and of course, develop core strength. Katie is passionate about educating all peoples on the incredible benefits of Pilates, and her goal as an instructor is to help her clients learn to move intelligently, both in the Pilates studio and in their everyday lives, to promote positive mental and physical health over the lifespan. As aptly stated by Joseph Pilates himself, “Not only is health a normal condition, but it is our duty to not only to attain it but to maintain it.” As a student of Pilates, Katie was first formally introduced to it as a means to recover from years of being a ballet dancer and track & field athlete. The non-impact, core-focused exercise helped her quickly develop better muscular balance and flexibility, which reduced the chronic pain felt in her knees and hips. The clarity of mind she also experienced from practicing Pilates inspired her to pursue her comprehensive certification amidst attaining her Master’s Degree in Psychology. Katie continued to teach Pilates throughout her graduate education, in which she earned a PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from Purdue University, as it served as a wonderful balance to the rigor of academics. Katie moved to Boston with her husband in 2015 to pursue academic careers, teaching and conducting research at Clark University and Harvard University. Katie continues to share her passion for Pilates and is grateful to her mentors and students for their unconditional support.
