Pilates was introduced to me in the late 1980's by my ballet instructor at the University of Colorado in Boulder, John Boyette. I enrolled in ballet as an adult, because it wasn't something accessible to me growing up. I grew up running track and cross country and spending countless hours in various fitness classes, all for one goal. My goal was to "look like" the models on the cover of magazines. Initially, Pilates was another form of a "workout" for me. I found myself needing knee surgery due to overuse of some thigh muscles and underuse of other thigh muscles. I was forced to stay off my leg for weeks. I experienced a withdrawal from exercise, not being able to workout 3-4 times a day to moving minimally for weeks. I was recommended to see a therapist to deal with my side effects of not being able to workout. I was diagnosed with Orthorexia which is a common co-concurring eating disorder. Pilates opened the door to a discovery of the body and mind connection as well to my journey to heal physically and emotionally. I have been teaching Pilates for almost 21 years. In 2000, I started with a mat certification through Physical Mind Institute in Santa Fe, NM. I continued my journey and found a small studio in Longmont, CO starting their first apprenticeship program in the Pilates method, Kolesar Body Knowledge Studio. In 2002 I completed over 700 hours of comprehensive Pilates training and an apprenticeship with Master Trainer, Lara Kolesar. In 2017 I joined the Club Pilates team and begun pursuing the master trainer program. My mission is to help others utilize Pilates to improve their movement patterns during sports, fitness and other life activities. I also hold certificates in both Barre Above,TRX, Trigger Point method and Active Motion Bar. When I am not teaching, you will find me cycling, dancing or enjoying craft beer with my lifetime partner and our Golden Retriever dog, Oskar.
